Steve Hall is Managing Director at Vulcan Capital where he heads up Vulcan's venture capital investment efforts. His investment areas include Internet services, data intelligence, alternative energy, mobile networks, and semiconductors. Mr. Hall oversees an investment portfolio that includes such companies as Redfin, Audience (NASDAQ: ADNC), PTC Therapeutics, Avalanche Technologies, Applied Proteomics, Sionyx, Siluria, Calxeda, Omeros, MOSAID, Sand9 and Vulcan Spectrum. He also serves on the board of the Allen Institute for Brain Science.
Mr. Hall began venture investing in 1998 and his prior exits include About.com (acquired by NY Times), Multex Systems (Reuters), Live Advice (Ingenio), Bigfoot Interactive (Alliance Data), and Gist (Blackberry). Mr. Hall was formerly a corporate attorney with White & Case in New York, where he focused on M&A and securities transactions. He has been a frequent guest lecturer on venture capital investing and deal structuring at Columbia, UCLA and Boulder law schools. Mr. Hall received his double BA in business administration and political science from Furman University and JD from Columbia University Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
