Steve Hall is Managing Director at Vulcan Capital where he heads up Vulcan's venture capital investment efforts. Steve oversees an investment portfolio that includes such companies as Redfin, Avalanche Technologies, Applied Proteomics, Siluria, AXSY, Off-Grid Electric, Zipline, SunBasket, Context Relevant, Juno Therapeutics, High-Fidelity, and Spaceflight Industries. His non-profit board roles include the Allen Institute for Brain Science and the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence. He is also an advisory board member of the Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship, Foster School of Business, University of Washington.
Steve began venture investing in 1998 and his prior exits include About.com (acquired by NY Times), Multex Systems (Reuters), Live Advice (Ingenio), Bigfoot Interactive (Alliance Data), BiPar Sciences (Sanofi-Aventis), Gist (BlackBerry), Decide.com (eBay), SportStream (Facebook), Turi (Apple) and Vulcan Spectrum. Steve was formerly a corporate attorney with White & Case in New York, where he focused on M&A and securities transactions. He has been a frequent guest lecturer on venture capital investing and deal structuring at Columbia, UCLA and Boulder law schools. Steve received his double BA in business administration and political science from Furman University and JD from Columbia University Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
